Hi
http://www.basw.co.uk/Portals/0/swtf%20interim%20report%20full.pdf
Please read the following extract re univeristy standards
1.52 The General Social Care Council (GSCC), has recently reported that 75 per cent of HEIs offering the degree were judged to be providing well-run courses, which met government standards and requirements37. However, there was concern about 15 per cent of courses,
requiring action plans for improvement to be put in place. A further 8 per cent required closer scrutiny where it was judged that providers were in jeopardy of not meeting standards and 3 per cent required intense remedial action. This led to suspension of student
intakes in two HEIs. Findings from the Department of Health and DCSF review of social work initial training38, and from the Task Force’s own discussions with academics, confirm the variability in the quality of the social work degree.new to the Forum.
Any comments? |

Thanks Sarah for this information. I too, I'm concerned about the 15%, and therefore would like to avoid such HEIs because at the end of one's social work programme, one needs to have employment, and it's a big problem for graduates who didn't have statutory placements as many of them find it very difficult to get jobs. I wonder if there is a way of knowing the HEIs that make up this 15%. |

A number of my friends are currently experiencing problems in getting statutory placements. My UNI has gone on to entice them with voluntary placements that have 'statutory roles' and they have adamantly refused to accept them, citing the extract you've posted. |

I have just finished my degree and would agree that there is a problem with placements the main one for the uni that I went to is that the 2nd ad 3rd year placements are 3 days a week for 80 days which the providers don't want they want student for 5 days which in turn was making them reluctant to offer placements in the future and we are losing the range of placment there was in the begining
